Maymont celebrates "Into the Wild"
Venture “INTO THE WILD!” at Uptown Gallery and support Maymont!
All-Member Art Show runs January 5 – February 27, 2010
Uptown Gallery is partnering with the Maymont Foundation in its 2010 All-
Member Art Show, “Into the Wild!” Showcasing unique works of art
created by the gallery’s 40+ artists, the All-Member Art Show opens
January 5 and runs thru February 27. Guests are invited to enjoy the
“First Friday” receptions on January 8 and February 5, 2010 in the Main
Gallery from 5 – 9 PM.
Art and animal lovers alike will enjoy the unique works, created in a
varied palette of media and techniques, specifically for this year’s show.
Consistent with their commitment to support local environmental and
cultural organizations in their annual All-Member Art Shows, Uptown
Gallery’s artists are donating 10% of the 2010 show’s sales to
Maymont. Information about Maymont membership and animal
adoptions through the Adopt A Living Thing program will be available in
the gallery during the exhibit’s two-month duration.
This year’s All-Member Art Show also features a novel opportunity for
Richmonders to make art with Uptown Gallery’s artists. Gallery guests
are encouraged and invited to paint their own “Into the Wild” picture on a
5’ x 4’9” canvas donated by Stuart White, one of the gallery’s artists.
Uptown Gallery will provide all painting materials and offer any needed
professional assistance for those interested in painting a specific
square on the canvas.
Maymont was the 100-acre country estate of Major James Henry and
Sallie May Dooley. The Dooleys completed their opulent mansion in
1893 and spent the next three decades creating the gardens,
landscapes and outbuildings you see today. Maymont now serves as
100 acres of history, habitats and horticulture. Since 1975, Maymont has
been maintained and operated by the private nonprofit Maymont
Foundation.
